When last we left our fave band of brigands, they were up against the nasty mermen and losing badly. Zolo was squaring off against octopus guy and six swords, the others were cornered, and Luffy was sent to swim with the fishies! If they don’t save their butts soon, it will be one short day in the life of these pirates!

Five more episodes of maritime mayhem! The first half of volume 9 is the big brawl of the Straw Hats versus the Mermen and you know whose gotta win by the end. And just when you thought it might be safe to go back out into the water, the crew sails to Roguetown, the last place before the Garnd Line where the One Piece is hidden. Things are anything but quiet when the Straw Hat Gang arrives. The evil navy has put a bounty on Luffy’s head, Zolo makes an unexpected friend in a cute bespectacled girl who leads him to a nifty new sword, Sanji is challenged to a cooking duel by one hot tamale of a woman, and Luffy is parading around town like an enthusiastic tourist when both the navy and the bounty hunters are out for his head! No one said a pirate’s life was easy. With this gang, it’s never boring!

This was a great slam bang conclusion to the Mermen storyline and the new one seems to have a lot of promise and gaining steam really quickly for the gang. There’s not only the navy, but hunters too, and what is it about that girl Zolo is hangin’ with?  Plus there’s the insane cook that Sanji has the hots for, and then Luffy with his crazy enthusiasm for everything.

One Piece is a little, wacky, a little weird, and a whole lot of fun! It’s maritime mayhem at its best!
