The lovers Iwaki and Katou managed to survive intact after the last bout of insecurities, but when Asano makes his move to break them apart and make Iwaki his lover, neither man will now what hit him! Asano is devious and Iwaki’s naiveté works against him when it comes to taking Asano at face value. The trap is laid out perfectly and Iwaki falls for it. The media blitz that follows is witnessed by Katou and it could mean the couple breaking up when Katou’s reaction is that he won’t come home!

This latest wrench in the lovers’ lives might be their most challenging set back yet. Youka Nitta does a grand job of upping the anti as well as giving yaoi fans increasingly charged erotic love scenes. Every time it seems the previous volume’s scenes are the top, Youka Nitta ascends to a new plateau of sexually intense and explicit images of intimacy between the two men.

An unexpected bonus in this volume is the story “Winter Cicadas”. Set during the tumultuous time of the upheaval between the government and the samurai who didn’t want to lay down their swords, two men from opposing sides meet and cannot fight their attraction to each other – despite the looming consequences. Dangers lurk everywhere for the two men as spies and informants could be in every shadow. Tragedy strikes and the lovers try to struggle on, but it might be an aim sought in vain as the end of an era may symbolize the end of their love.

This bonus story is amazing. It is very involving and set in the Meiji Era. The art work is more detailed than Youka Nitta’s usual work and stands out as some of her best. If you’re wondering what connection this story about samurai at the end of an era could possibly have with the present lovers Katou and Iwaki, look closely at the men and what their last words to each other say and mean. You might just find an interesting connection in them.
