The second last volume of this energetic soap opera comedy has Valentine’s Day mayhem, Sana’s book published with melodramatic results, Sana getting evicted from her home and a shocking revelation about Take!
Gearing up towards the finale, this volume of Kodocha starts off with its usual manic mayhem with its Valentine’s Day episode and then by the end of the volume, hits a home run with some superb soap opera revelations for viewers. When Sana’s book is published and Mami is nowhere in it, she is deeply hurt, but it’s Sana who runs away! Struggling to deal with her problem or run from it, a chance encounter with Take has Sana learning more about the man she works with and so admires. Later, Sana and her family are getting evicted! With no time to find a place before the new house is ready, Sana ends up staying with Take. This is a situation which has her best friend Akito coming across as jealous over her situation with Take. The anime then goes for the angst with gusto when Sana’s mother investigates Take and discovers a startling connection he has with Sana just when she also uncovers an upsetting secret about his health condition. This all happens mere moments before he collapses in front of Sana! This kind of high melodrama is quintessential of soap operas and some of the revelations won’t surprise viewers as Take’s connection to Sana has been hinted at throughout the series, but it makes for great fun to view. The unexpected turn of events at the end make that revelation all the more poignant and dramatic and is done to great effect, which really shows off the strong writing. What continually puts this dramedy ahead of other anime however has to be the zany, off-the-wall comedy that infuses the anime with so much energy and zest. EXTRAS: This disc includes previews of other FUNimation titles. IN SUMMARY: The penultimate volume of Kodocha sees some startling secrets unveiled, Take’s surprising connection to Sana revealed, and more of the great zany comedy that has charmed viewers throughout the anime series.
