Love Recipe is an entertaining yaoi comedy with all sorts of silly mayhem for a newbie editor given charge of an extremely difficult and eccentric manga writer. Poor Ozawa, he finally thought he was catching a break when he started to work for a prestigious publishing company. However, he is soon given over to the not just any mangaka, but to Sakurako Kakyoin, who writes yaoi and happens to be a man writing under a pen name! The writer is suffering writer’s block and being low on the ladder, the pressure is high on Ozawa to come through and get the company’s star writer back on track. He never could have guessed just what kind of “motivation” Kakyoin was looking for! What’s a poor small-town guy to do? After having read so many dramatic yaoi, this comedic romp was pure fun and a delight to read. Kakyoin is hilarious. An over the top playboy persona with the looks to match, it takes a lot of energy for the desperate Ozawa to keep up with him on either a professional or personal level. And that’s just how Kakyoin likes it. He’ll stoop to all sorts of dastardly (evil fun) plans to keep Ozawa his and away distract Ozawa from thoughts of becoming an all-work-no-play editor. His seduction plans are a riot, especially with Ozawa’s completely naïve reactions to them. Ozawa even writes the occasional letter to his family “Dear Mother and Father, Today at work…” They are crazy funny. It’s often hard to tell if Kakyoin is just playing with Ozawa or honestly is falling in love with him. He drags him off to an expensive Japanese inn to attempt to get his true feelings across, but even then, his delightfully evil nature in taking advantage of Ozawa seems to overcome any attempts at “romance”. The art style is utterly appealing and has energy to match the infamous Kakyoin. The expressions show a lot of versatility as does the drawing style, such as when it goes to a more chibi form at times to get across the innocence of Ozawa (occasionally bunnies are involved), or to get across the extreme zaniness of the situation. Kakyoin is a handsome devil and a sinful delight to watch how he tenderly tortures Ozawa. IN SUMMARY: Love Recipe if a hilarious new yaoi series that finds the fun and revels in it! It has a sexy mangaka having his wicked ways with his rookie editor for sinful delights. |
