Joe is a no good thug with a short lease on life. He’s been given the news he has a terminal condition and not that much longer to live. Young and good looking in that “I’m dangerous” kind of way, Joe won’t go down without one last big score to blaze his name in glory. What he could never anticipate was that his intended kidnap and ransom victim, the young and beautiful man Yuushi, might be even more bad than Joe! Soon the kidnapper/kidnapped roles aren’t so clear when the lines blur as to who is seducing who in this sexy yaoi tale of danger and romance!
This stand-alone manga is sheer yaoi fun. Along the lines of such titles as Fake, Gravitation, and Yellow, Waru delivers a story about sexy men in dangerous past times and heated moments. Like those other titles, particularly Fake and Gravitation, Waru has a heavy dose of comedy to the action and precarious situations. Joe is very sarcastic and when the lovely angelic looking Yuushi proves to be something of a devil in sheep’s clothing, Joe the thug is in over his head and under the sheets. Getting through the ransom, dealing with the conniving Yuushi, and trying to avoid punishment at the hands of Yuushi’s powerful family, isn’t all Joe has to worry about. There’s still his oddly terminal condition and a jealous rival for Yuushi’s affections pops up to kidnap Joe! The tables get turned around completely by the end with Joe as the kidnap victim waiting for Yuushi to rescue him. It’s an energetic erotic caper romp that was a delight to read. The art work is great and the writing fast paced and purposefully funny. Throw in the erotic love scenes and it is a sure-fire yaoi hit. IN SUMMARY: Waru is a sexy and fun ride about Joe the thug, his intended kidnap victim, and all the hilarious things that go wrong from there. It’s love at first kidnapping for these two and Joe the thug is about to bite off more than he bargained for with the angelic looking devil who seduces him! This title is sure to appeal to fans of Fake and Gravitation. |
