JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTRY CONSIDERING USING MANGA AND ANIMATION TO EMPASIZE NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT |

The Japanese Foreign Ministry is considering utilizing Japanese manga and animation to spread the word on the importance of nuclear disarmament, in hopes that young people throughout the world would understand the danger of nuclear weapons. The ministry distributed the English edition of Barefoot Gen, an international best-seller that represent the misery of nuclear bomb, at the preparation committee for the conference to review the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, held recently in Vienna, and plans to continue to distribute other manga, animation, and computer graphics at international conferences.
