Love is in the air on Papuwa Island this volume which means one thing: mayhem! Valentine’s Day has a lot of the wacky residents’ hopeful about the ones they’re each crushing on, but I don’t think anyone goes as far or is as frightening as bearded and muscled female Umako whose love for man-maid Liquid knows no bounds - or boundaries! Can the man save himself from her smothering intentions in time? Especially when his attempts to bring a happy v-day to Papuwa and Kotaro end up in a battle against the great cocoa mother monster! Who knew baking a cake would be so hard or deadly?
The show outdoes itself this time with the insanity. Excel Saga can move over because there is no politically incorrect joke Papuwa doesn’t go for. Gay jokes are tossed around like rain in a typhoon, and the wrongness with slime trials and chocolate baking know no limits of propriety. And that’s why we love this show! Valentine’s isn’t the only festival to take over the island. The Star Festival is a comin’ and you know it will be up to the man-maid to hike the lethal heights of the plant to attach everyone’s wishes to its branches. But wait! What’s that coming over head? Could it be the return of Shintaro? And he’s looking to reclaim Kotaro, that is, if the manly man-maid Liquid doesn’t stop him in time! But of course, Liquid has to survive the psycho giant panda first! No anime is as crazy or as fun as Papuwa. It throws out logic, political correctness, and sense and sensibility as it goes for laugh after laugh. There’s even an insanely funny flashback with crazy Arashiyama and his days at the Ganma Academy. I can’t believe the anime is already almost over. Only one more volume after this folks! EXTRAS:
