Although reunited, the reunion between Hanzo and Usagi was a brief one as she must return to the castle and her service to Ieyasu. To find the Elixir of Eternal Youth to give to the Lord so that she can return to Hanzo, Usagi treks up a mountain to find an ancient legendary herbalist. There she will discover not only the strange old man who may have the key to her freedom, but also an unexpected link to her past and her clan. Things are never dull for Usagi though, even if she gains the elixir, she seems to have met a new and handsome man who has taken a liking to her, and he’s Kouga, the ninja clan in deep rivalry with the Iga! Usagi isn’t the only one gaining new admirers. Hanzo does meet up again with Usagi but there reunion is interrupted by a beautiful woman with deadly ninja skills who isn’t above, ‘cutting out’ the competition – Usagi – for good!

There’s never a dull moment in this light hearted ninja romance. With so many feudal tales told with the harsher realities of the time focused on, it’s enjoyable to come across this manga title which offers a softer and romantically comedic story of ninjas and samurai. One of the funniest things in this volume is Hanzo acquiring a new friend which turns out to be a cute itty bitty white rabbit. The attachment he has with the new pet is endearing beyond anything. The rivals for Usagi’s heart are multiplying like, well, rabbits. Yuki’s character is fleshed out more and he has a surprising proposal for Usagi.
Meanwhile, the other new possible rivals in love that are introduced in this volume are intriguing new characters that readers can look forward to seeing more of in future chapters.

Manga extras include an afterword from the author and a glossary of terms.

IN SUMMARY:
Tail of the Moon is a fun and lighthearted romantic comedy. This volume introduces some new love interests and rivals for both Hanzo and Usagi.
