Saber has rushed off to face a dangerous opponent alone, an Assassin Class Servant. The beautiful and lethal Servant Rider watches from the shadows and Shinji, her Master, takes this opportunity for his own aims. The outcome makes it imperative to train Shirou in the art of war, but will it be in time to keep the young Magus alive when Shinji unleashes a dastardly trap with the entire school as bait? Under the crimson sky Saber and Rider will battle and only one will walk away from this fight!
Magic, mayhem and murder are on the agenda in the latest episodes of this absorbing anime series. Their encounters with Shinji and Rider leave no doubt that in order to survive, Shirou has got to get his act together and learn how to fight. His training with Saber over combat and Rin for magic don’t seem to be going very smoothly though. Far too soon, Shinji plans a new trap and Shirou walks right into it in order to save his classmates from the increasingly unstable Shinji. Soon it’s Shinji versus Shirou and Rider after Saber in an all out magic war. This volume has a lot of substance to it. The battles showcase some arresting animation, particularly during the final duel between Saber and the compelling Rider. During the battle it is shown just how antagonistic Rider’s relationship with Shinji is, and it also demonstrates the greater powers the Servants have at their disposal. Not all Servants are Epic Heroes such as Saber. Some can be demons and who knows what else. And as to what Epic Hero Saber is, we are given a large clue during her confrontation with Rider. Fate/Stay Night starts rolling out even more myths and legends come to life in the series during these episodes. The war for the Holy Grail is further added to by the appearance of Excalibur. But it isn’t only Arthurian myths and legends that are brought into this series. Bellerophon, otherwise known as Pegasus, from Greek mythology makes an appearance. Meanwhile the concepts of Assassin Class, Warrior Class, etc., are more akin to Dungeons and Dragons or the World of Warcraft. Mixed together the way it has in this anime, it makes for a thrilling fantasy adventure, rich with action and mystery. EXTRAS: Bonus features include Geneon previews, a fold out insert, reverse cover art, music videos for the opening and closing theme songs featuring the actual pop idols, Rider’s Diary which is a perverse insight into the beautiful and deadly Servant’s life and perspective. IN SUMMARY: Fate/Stay Night offers rich fantasy and suspenseful action for viewers to immerse themselves in.
