The penultimate volume of this series reaches some suspenseful and intense moments as everything nears the climatic end of the world – literally! The Claw’s twisted plan to destroy the planet has bee discovered and now it’s a race against the countdown to doomsday. However, Fasalina is engaged in a fierce and deadly battle with a rage ridden Van. Neither he nor his Armor Dan survive unscathed and with Dan’s satellite destroyed, there’s now ay to repair Van’s Armor. Now Van is weakening with every passing hour and he isn’t the only one. Ray is suffering as well after the severe damage he and his Armor have suffered. But worst of all, the Claw has asked Wendy out on a date and she accepted! These pivotal episodes have a lot happening both with the character development and story movement. Wendy’s interaction with the Claw is riveting and it displays how much she’s matured since the beginning of the series. However, just as the show reveals how much Wendy has matured, it also shows Van’s deteriorating physical condition and possibly his mental state as well. Overcome with his desire for vengeance against eh Claw, could his rage interfere with attempts to save the planet and all life on it? Things get very exciting as everyone bands together to stop the destruction of their world. Even the injured Ray shows up to help. On the flip side we see the villains hard at work as the countdown continues for their plan. And just as we see Wendy’s evolution, we see Michael’s descent as he grows more obsessed with achieving the Claw’s lethal plan. His trip to the moon uncovers some startling secrets about the Claw, his ultimate plan, and the reasons behind it. The plan is underway, the planet is about to be destroyed but wait, Van is in their way. But his time it might not be Fasalina he has to fight, but Wendy’s brother Van! And the clock to the destruction of the planet keeps ticking… There is some very slick animation in these episodes, particularly on the moon when we get to see what it’s been hiding all this time. The CG animation is a bit heavy but it looks cool and the new setting in space provides some more opportunities for this slick animation style to shine. Through the series, the English voice cast has been constantly impressive all around. It’s rare for an anime to hold such high quality English voice talent consistently throughout not only the entire series, but across all the characters. EXTRAS: Volume 6 includes the clean openings, art gallery, Geneon previews, a reversible cover, a fold out image insert of Fasalina, and two new episodes of the parody Gun X Sword-San. IN SUMMARY: The penultimate volume of Gun Sword sees some amazing animation combined with riveting storytelling and character evolutions.
