Maburaho shows us why harem comedies are just that damn good! It’s like Harry Potter meets Girls Bravo! But unlike Girls Bravo, this has an itty bit less fan service and a lot more ongoing plot. Kazuki is likeable right off the bat. The guy never catches a break. He’s got one of the lowest magic scores on the planet. He can do maybe 8 spells if he’s lucky, and if he does the last eight one – poof! He dies! And this is the kicker: he does! Before you say,”What the -?” Kazuki’s been turned into a ghost and he spends the rest of the series that way! And just when he had all those hot girls after him too! It turns out he’s got all this genetic mojo that girls are yenning for, but how are they supposed to seduce him now that he’s gone Casper?!
This show is drop-dead funny! That pun is fully intended by the way. And there are all the types of girls you’d expect in a harem comedy anime and more! First is childhood friend Yuna whose caring but has a hidden temper. Then there’s the more proper katana carrying girl Rin who’s been engaged to Kazuki against her will (and don’t think she isn’t there to off him in the first eps). And to round off the main trio, we have the voluptuous and conniving Kuriko. She’s a lot of fun. The three of them fight over Kazuki whether he’s got a body or not! But they aren’t the only lovelies to grace the screen. There’s the land lady who’s always dressed in black looking a little Goth to me, and my absolute favorite - The Ghost Hunter! She’s cunning, slick and oh-so-fine. When she goes after Kazuki’s ghost those three girls will have their hands full! And you’ll love watching every minute of it! It’s not all just laughs, giggle bounce and panty shots. It’s got romance and I’m man enough to say it was sweet. The way the girls don’t abandon Kazuki when he’s toast as a ghost tugged at the old ticker. And the way the story comes together at the end had me on the edge of my seat. EXTRAS: They put the entire series in one svelte thinpack hard art box. The only bonus is some ADV previews. The box is drool-wroth, lots of pretty colors and lovely ladies an every side. IN SUMMARY: Maburaho is one of the best harem comedies of recent years. It’s got fan service and plot along with the plunging neck lines and buoyant eye candy. You’ll be caught laughing and drooling over this gem of an anime.
