I don’t know about the rest of you, but with Pirates of the Caribbean 3 right around the corner, I’m jonesin’ for any pirate fix I can get and One Piece is a great anime to sit back with. Things left off tense with Nami playing the bad girl for a good cause. She’s been helping out the Mermen pirates, the freakiest and nastiest pirates in the anime so far. But she’s been doing it to save her home town. All these years of stealing and betraying to save the people she loves. It just makes me like her even more! But wait! The plot thickens, the Navy’s shown up and their not the cavalry everyone was hoping for. Now everybody wants Nami’s hidden loot and they don’t mind mowing down her village to get it! For this volume, it’s all about Nami. And as well it should be. She’s been one of the best characters out of the whole anime so far. She’s got guts, smarts, and can heft a mean punch when needed. Nearly an entire episode takes a look back on how she ended up with those Mermen creeps and it is harsh. Dang, the girl went through some rough times. My itty bitty heart went out to her. So when her goal of paying off the Mermen to save her town is met with evil cunning and betrayal most foul, she’s on the warpath. And with Luffy and the gang learning the truth about their friend, they’re ready to help her. Now it’s an all out rumble between the Mermen and the Straw Hat gang with the navy thrown in to boot! The show ends on a brutal cliffhanger this round with Usopp on the run from one scary Merman, the rest of the Straw Hats aren’t dong much better, and Luffy might be sent to swim with the fishes! You’ve got danger, some great action and friendship winning out in the end. That’s my kind of anime! EXTRAS: Bonus features include a production art gallery, previews of One Piece art book and video game, and previews of Shonen Jump video title and magazine. IN SUMMARY: Creepy mermen, angry Straw Hats and a villainous navy, oh my! It’s an all out pirate brawl this anime volume! One Piece is a dynamic pirate anime with loads of treasure trove fun!
