After recent events, Zeke questions his right to the title of the Black Knight, when his love for Christian as one man to another, takes precedence in his heart above all else. Yet danger lurks ahead as the move forward with their plan to have Prince Christian play hostage in order to infiltrate the Dundalk Empire and initiate peace talks. However, soon the abduction becomes all too real. In the aftermath, Zeke lies injured, Christian is a real prisoner, and the fate of two nations may be in their hands. But Falcon’s Talon group is trouble and evil men may bring al of Christian’s good intentions to ruin.

This latest volume of the medieval yaoi romantic epic takes a very dramatic turn as plans go sour in these chapters. The men holding Zeke and Christian are not good people. Some even attempt to rape Zeke. To try to stop the brutality, the exiled Dundalk prince reveals his true identity to his men in the hopes of stopping them. But it may just turn the tide of hatred towards him and Christian.

The political intrigue and danger mixes well with the deepening romance between the Black Knight and the courageous prince Christian. Their story only takes up about half the volume however, and a bonus story makes up the rest of the manga, continuing the back story to how the younger Aran first became king, and the reasons for his war against Dundalk are revealed. His dream of a land without war is shown here along with his bond with Doug, who is the only one to witness the young man’s grief and rage over his dream of unifying the continent being shattered. It makes for some gripping sword action and politics, but it does draw away too much from the main characters of Zeke and Christian. Their story is the main and more compelling one and it would have been nice to see more of them.

IN SUMMARY:
Knights, princes, danger, yaoi; it’s a recipe for a romantic medieval epic success.
