As Sora tries to come to grips with his hidden personality called Yoru, he is nevertheless increasingly worried about his future. With more and more nights being filled with passion between Yoru and Ran (Sunao’s hidden personality), Sora can’t help but worry if Yoru might take over completely at some point, and then will Sora be erased forever? Nevertheless, despite these fears, Sora has a giving heart and finds himself roped into more Jack of Trades shenanigans thanks to Matsuri. Both Valentine’s Day and White Day come around, and Sora can’t help but want to fix a seeming argument between his older brother and the man’s lover, the kind Nanami.

This latest and penultimate volume of Sukisho continues to successfully mix light-hearted romantic antics with an unsettling mystery. Valentine’s Day sees Sora and Sunao delivering goods to sweethearts non-stop. During their deliveries they notice what they interpret to be a disagreement between Nanami and Shinichiro. Immediately Sora wants to make sure the couple stays happily together and goes to crazy lengths to try to up the romance in their lives, with Sunao right along for the ride to help. Much of it is very comedic, but of course Valentine’s Day would not be complete without Yoru stealing an intimate moment with Ran.

Later, despite other adventures, the story starts to get increasingly serious although it still reveals clues ever so slowly. Sunao and Sora’s relationship is changing. At first it seems they’re getting closer, but after a mysterious phone call and late meeting with a shady character, Sunao distances himself from Sora. Just what is going on? We get the barest glimpses into Sunao’s abused childhood and of Sora’s very fragmented memories. These clues are not enough to put the pieces together yet, but they do build a suspenseful and increasing feeling of angst looming on the horizon. At the end of this volume, Sora and Sunao are speaking again but when faced with the place where he reportedly had jumped out of a window, Sora wants to confront where his accident occurred and asks Sunao for his help in trying to help him remember.

EXTRAS:
Bonus features include trailers, character song video clips for Matsuri, and an erotic one for Sora and Sunao, clean closing animation, and the next installment of “Sukisho! Broadcast”, an original Japanese feature that has a video table discussion with the Japanese voice actors Hikaru Midorikawa (Sora) and Kouki Miyata (Sei).

IN SUMMARY:
Sukisho is a yaoi anime that is an intriguing blend of erotic romance, unexpected and energetic bouts of comedy, and a deeper, at times disturbing, mystery surrounding the young men at the academy.
