SERIES SYNOPSIS: Michelle, Maggie and Anita are three sisters united by a strange power: the ability to control paper in any way they desire. From their Hong Kong detective agency, they solve any and all cases involving books REVIEW: Lighter than the TV anime series it inspired, Read or Dream the manga has fun little adventures with the three sisters. In this penultimate volume, the sisters have their hands full when Maggie is given a book that starts her showing multiple personalities! It’s a copslay nightmare as Michelle and Anita try to get their sister back under control. When Michelle gains an astonishing amount of weight, Anita and Maggie come up with a diet plan involving books. Next, when Anita catches a cold, it’s a trip that mixes the Wizard of Oz with Alice in Wonderland in a dream adventure. Last, Anita finds an unexpected new friend when the girls are hired to bodyguard a new author. She makes fast friends with Hisa, so when Lily the Reader Extraordinaire shows up to kidnap Hisa, Anita’s on the warpath! It’s the Paper Sisters to the rescue! This sequel to Read or Die is fun and fast paced. The various adventures are entertaining and light. The interaction between the three very different sisters is always good for chuckles and a few heart warming moments. The paper powers are always impressive and creative in the many wonderful uses the girls think of to save people and get their jobs done. The art style is nice, featuring attractive character designs and clean action sequences that are easy for the eye to follow. Manga extras include an interview with the author Hideyuki Kurata and artist Ran Ayanaga; and a bonus story: Cleaning up Demons with Anita the Cleaner. IN SUMMARY: R.O.D.
