Christopher Hart and Watson-Guptill have offered a new manga guide that is sure to appeal to novices and intermediary artists alike.  It not only takes you through the proportions and steps on drawing manga-style figures. It also contains tracing paper and blank pages for practice exercises.

There are a couple of reasons why I prefer this to the average how-to-draw guide. First is its savvy portable journal style. Rather than the usual oversized books that are too easily bent and hard to fit in bags and notebooks and awkward to carry, this manga workbooks is a small compact size that can readily fit into any notebook or backpack without taking up a wide space. The other reason is for its handy trace paper and work pages. It’s nice to have a book that offers the person learning the work, pages with the book in order to practice right then and there with the illustrations that capture the imagination.

It goes through the expected and logical progression from drawing manga style heads, to eyes and expression and building up to female and male manga style figures, covering their proportions, offering a special look at hands which is a common problem area for many artists. The book takes the illustrator through various poses and even has a special section and types of popular manga figures like magical girls.

What makes this so keen for novice illustrators is its genius layout. It goes literally step by step, really breaking it down for a person to make it easy to follow. To add to the facility, it gives you the image to trace over right there in the book so you can try your hand at what that section offers right away.

IN SUMMARY:
It’s the easiest to follow and practical how-to-draw manga guide on the market!
