Misao has fallen in love with the tengu demon that wants her for his bride, but the harder she falls for Kyo, the more torn she is about the reality of their situation. She wants to marry him, but if she does it will mean her leaving the human world – her family and friends and the life she has known – forever.

Kyo gives her a special pendant made of one of his own feathers to help protect her. Shuhei is still hanging around. Kyo states to the fox demon that the only proof he’ll accept of Shuhei’s good intentions is to let Kyo see the Senka Roku. It is an account of a human-demon wedding that occurred three hundred years ago. In it may be the key to Misao’s fate, if only she could read it.

When Shuhei offers her a peek, it's more temptation than she can resist. He tells her to come alone and then that she must remove her pendant. She does and soon finds herself being forced by an insistent Kyo! This is not the man she loves. Soon she sees two Kyo’s battling each other. Can she tell which is the demon she loves in time?

Misao overhears Kyo telling his own tengu about his concern and love for Misao, how he wants to read the account in order to save her. He is burdened by the thought that the person he loves the most is the one who will suffer the most because of his love. When she hears that, the last of her reserves melt away. No matter what, she vows to stay by him.

Shuhei has not given up. He makes a pact with Kiyo and her twin brother Kensuke to help take Kyo down and get Misao for himself. Kensuke arrives as a transfer student. He looks snake mean but in reality, Misao finds him to be clumsy and kind. He is nothing like his sister and Misao soon takes a liking to him as a friend. He in turn is smitten with Misao and it changes everything. Will he help protect the girl he loves or will it cause him to wholeheartedly help in breaking Misao and Kyo apart? A cunning scheme might do just that when Kiyo convinces Kyo that Misao has been bitten and the only way to give a human the anti-venom is to be bitten yourself! Kyo falls into the trap and a full out fight for survival occurs on the grounds of his home. In the end, many truths will be learned, more than one double-cross occurs, and an enemy will fall forever. In the aftermath, Misao and Kyo comfort each other and in her vulnerability, they could consummate a relationship when they still don’t know the full consequence they may face should they complete the act.

The intrigue runs high, especially with the introduction of a former coupling that could either be the salvation or the doom of the current couple of Misao and Kyo. The manga however still ends on a light note despite the more mature subject matter. The comedy is due to the bonus chapter at the end. Kyo sends out all his minions to find special cakes for his lady love and the simple plan runs afoul very quickly and with many laughs. The manga also includes short comic panels and translation notes.
