Pokemon is a series you either love or hate, because there’s no way you don’t know at least something about it! Either way, it is a multi-million dollar franchise and it isn’t going away anytime soon. Most readers can remember the boom in the late nineties with the original Pokemon adventures, but did you know there has been a stream of new separate seasons since then? Pokémon Elements takes episodes from throughout the many seasons within the Pokemon universe, and brings specific episodes with specific Pokemon together so that fans of those Pokemon can see them in their own episodes as a small collection. This particular volume of Elements focuses on the “Dark” element, and therefore caters to fans of Dark Pokémon specifically.

This DVD contains three Pokémon episodes all featuring dark Pokémon. The episodes consist of “Absol-ute Disaster”, “Pop Goes the Sneasel”, and “A Bite to Remember.” The third episode will likely be most people’s favorite because it focuses on the ever-popular “Poochyena”, a dog/wolf-like Pokémon with a lot of gusto. Poochyena is a Dark-type Pokémon of course, and has the ability to run away without being seen if a fight is too much, and the ability to Quick Attack with lightening speed. Needless to say it is a fast Pokémon! Generally it is a persistent Pokémon by nature, and it chases its chosen prey until the prey becomes exhausted and gives up. The great thing about Pokémon is it has so many different creatures and characters to learn about like this and they are all different. It’s a very catchy concept and appeals to most children almost instantly. Pokémon is a lot of fun, and this “Elements” series of DVDs lets kids choose a particular type of Pokémon that are their favorite to watch on DVD.

As for the animation and the overall quality of the product, this is the same great Pokémon fun we’ve come to know and love, just packaged a bit differently. There’s nothing terribly different about the animation from episode to episode because these are all newer episodes in the series. Kids will love the vibrant imagery and fast action. Pokémon has always been a great kids show and leaves them entertained for hours. Pokémon also has a pretty good replay value for the most part – kids will watch these episodes multiple times if entranced enough by the Pokémon world. There’s three great Pokémon adventures here with lots to learn, and lots of Dark Pokémon to go around!
