The past proves pivotal in the latest volume of Tsubasa. Syaoran is only a child when he first is transported to the Kingdom of Clow and meets Sakura. It is arranged for him to have seven days with her, seven days before her purification rite on her seventh birthday. Syaoran’s mother dreams of the future so he knows that it is important that he be there to protect Sakura from some unknown threat.  However he too is only a child. Can even he stop he evil that is about to be unleashed?

The past of Syaoran and Sakura proves to be much more crucial than anyone could have ever realized. As Syaoran in the present relates the past to Kurogane and Fai, a terrible feeling of foreboding emerges. As those precious seven days pass, the bond between the two children grow. On the day of the rite, the worst occurs. An enemy well know in the present appears in the past to curse Sakura. Syaoran battles the mighty Fei Wang but to no avail. He could not stop the black wings from marking his precious Sakura. In the other world, he is taken care of and healed by the dimensional witch Yuko. He does not realize that the first choice he has made has already decided one future and that the next one he makes will decide another.

Although wounded, the boy bravely insists that he will save Sakura from the death mark upon her, he will find a way no matter what. But this wish comes with a price, a high one and in so agreeing he sets the stage for what is to come. He returns to the Kingdom of Clow and searches far and wide for a cure for the unknowing princess. Only he and one other know of the mark upon her. The years pass but no answer is found. Again it is her birthday and the mark’ s time has come. She is slated to die. Her mother sacrifices herself to stop time in order to save her daughter and the devil appears to wrest what is precious from Syaoran. Time is of the essence, just what deal is Syaoran about to make with Fei Wang to save Sakura? Has he doomed them all in the past? Has he done something that created this fateful journey they are all on?

The intrigue mounts with increasing tension as the mysteries unfold as do the answers.

Manga extras include translation notes.
