REVIEW:
The series gets even more intense in its second season. After the devastating assault on the Black Order and one of its most respected and beloved generals, the Order is now intent on finding the Heart of Innocence before the Millennium Earl does. Before he and the Clan of Noah uses it to destroy all of humanity. But time is running out as the Order searches for its other generals in hopes of saving these Accommodators in time before the Clan of Noah catches up to them.

The main plot of the second season is the search for the generals and for the Heart of Innocence. Lenalee and Allen look for Cross, Allen’s old mentor while others look for the other Accommodators. The search leads to various encounters with Akuma and offers different stand alone adventures within the larger story framework. What it also contains are various character development episodes on different members of the Order including Krory, an intense two-parter with Kanda and a tragic legacy of village witches, back story on Daisya in his search for his mentor Tiedoll, and one of the most intriguing of all is a two-part mystery involving Lenalee as she encounters the silent and solitary Exorcist Suman Dark. Her story gives keen insight into her past, showing that life as an Apostle was one filled with separation, fear, and anguish.

The various character stories all lead to Barcelona where an alarming horde of Akuma are gathering. The finale of the box set builds to a climactic battle on several fronts in Barcelona involving the various members of the Black Order against the Akuma and the Clan of Noah. In particular is the one on one battle between Noah member Tyki against Daisya. General Tiedoll is saved but only at a great loss to the Black Order. The Akuma forces are driven back but it is a hard won victory that tastes like ashes in the mouths of the Order. The final episode, Silent Coffins, is a grim one, revealing the toll the war has taken even while it offers Allen a lead on where to find Cross.

EXTRAS:
