Schoolgirl Takiko, after being absorbed into the book of the four gods, has become the priestess of Genbu. In this volume, Takiko finds herself pushed back into her world, that of 1923 Japan, and faces both her father and her first love. The full truth about the Book of the Four Gods that her father has been obsessed with, is not fully revealed to her. Before she learns the whole terrifying truth, she makes a fateful decision after coming to a new understanding about her father and dealing with her first love. Her and Uruki reunite and have an intimately emotional moment of shared confessions and a heartbreaking understanding. Her decision to gain the power of the priestess to save Bei Jia and restore her mother will mean that she will forever be unable to fully share her love with Uruki. What she does not know, is that if she becomes the Priestess fully, it will mean her death…
The Universe of the Four Gods originally revealed in the splendid saga Fushigi Yugi, is an immersing one filled with fantasy adventure, romantic intrigue and great dangers. FY Genbu Kaiden shows no less in quality of story telling. Although in the original FY series we heard a truncated version of what had happened to the priestess of Genbu, it is fascinating to read what her story truly is. As the story intensifies, the question raises itself as how much that was recorded and read by Miaka in the future was true. Here you can discover the actual true story of the first priestess of the Universe of the Four Gods and it undoubtedly holds many surprises before the last page sees this epic end.
In this volume, her search for other Celestial Warrior leads to a brothel where a hard young madame oversees the harsh lives of the girls who work there. Witnessing all this only serves to solidify Takiko’s determination more, oblivious to the fact that her wishes such as to bring peace to the kingdom and restore her mother back to life will mean the sacrifice of her own life. Ending on a cliffhanger revelation and a deadly battle, it will leave you on the edge of your seat. With the emotional components of the manga, it will also see you with your heart breaking for the sorrow yet to come, while yearning for hope for this brave heroine.
