Join Ash, Pikachu and friends on their newest adventure in the world of Diamond and Pearl! Shaymin, the peaceful Gratitude Pokémon, lives happily in forests and fields of flowers. But one day Shaymin is accidentally drawn into a battle between the Legendary Pokémon Giratina and Dialga. Whisked away far from home, Shaymin is found by Ash, Dawn and Brock, who soon discover that this new Pokémon is full of surprises! Of course Team Rocket wants to get their hands on Shaymin, and so does a mysterious man named Zero. Even Giratina is in hot pursuit of this little Pokémon—and just what do Giratina and Shaymin have to do with the dimension known as the Reverse World?

With that summary of the plot out of the way, this must be said: Pokémon is a series you either love or hate – so where do you fall in relation to that? I know you’re thinking about it now! Everyone knows what it is and everyone has an opinion on either side of the fence. Either way, it is a multi-million dollar franchise and it isn’t going away anytime soon. Most readers can remember the boom in the late nineties with the original Pokémon adventures, and the series has continued to go strong way past what most people could have guessed it would be able to. It’s actually pretty cool that old fans and all the “still discovering it” kids can get into this classic Pokémon series and begin from the very start if they want to with the new DVD sets coming out now, but it’s also just as cool to follow along with Ash’s latest adventures in the continuing epic that is Pokémon, in this manga format.

Pokémon has always been a lot of fun – fun is at the core of this series, as well as the obsessive collector’s factor of “Gotta Catch Them All!” (don’t act like you haven’t heard that phrase before!). In being fun, a manga must have fun art – it’s easily assurable to readers that this Pokémon manga plays host to some of the best art the series has seen in a while. This Pokémon story is made very dynamic through the use of detailed art, showcasing considerable movement and energy. This is just the ticket to keep kids interested, and asking for their next book to read. What parent doesn’t want their kids to be reading? None – so buy them a book they will like =).

It is often a good idea to know something about the author/artist of the manga we are reading, because it can give some insight into where the manga came from and what else the author/artist may have had a hand in creating. Makoto Hijioka is the author/artist for Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior, and is also the artist for the series Taiyoh Shonen no Django, which ran in CoroCoro magazine. If you like their work here, why not read their other works?

IN SUMMARY:
Pokémon isn’t going away anytime soon, so why not jump on the bandwagon if you aren’t on it already!? Pokémon is a lot of fun, and so is this particular manga – check it out!
