The manga spends a lot of time on Hokuto, the cruel master of Nanaera. He’s searching for Mercurio and ends up with his sights on Eukanaria! Watch out Haruhiko!

Hokuto is an unusual and difficult fellow to like. The manga spends some time showing some telling snippets about his background, which helps spell out his breakdown when his sister that he adores says she’s leaving. This is way beyond a simple sister complex. Hokuto is rude and outright mean to every person he meets, especially girls. His search for Mercurio lands him in the middle of the cultural festival where he ends up meeting Eukanaria. She takes a liking to him (she has terrible taste in guys) and he unfortunately takes an interest in her. This could only spell trouble for Eukanaria and Haruhiko.

The two exchange farewells with Mercurio who leaves. Mercurio’s presence and departure raises questions for Haruhiko regarding his relationship with Eukanaria. In fact, the segments that are devoted to the duo show a shift in their relationship paradigm. It could be that both are starting to take the place of the one foremost in each others’ hearts. For Eukanaria it remains Fulcanelli but could she be warming more to Haruhiko? And what if Fulcanelli’s soul was gone for good? Would she stay with Haruhiko or move on to someone else? That very question haunts Haruhiko and shows that he’s getting more attached to her. When Hokuto mistakes Yuka for Eukanaria and ridicules her for her ineptitude around technology, a nearby Haruhiko becomes incensed and the fight causes a rift between Haruhiko and Yuka. More intriguing yet, it also shows how Haruhiko is starting to wish Yuka was more like Eukanaria and not the other way around.

The volume ends with ominous foreshadowing involving Hokuto. He is up to no good. Someone has trashed Haruhiko’s work place (it is an easy guess as to who could have done the deed). And the romantic intrigue just found a new layer of convoluted for this dynamic enchanted duo. Plus the manga has more comical Naniwa-jin Battle Diary panels.

IN SUMMARY:
A new character enters the story and he spells nothing but trouble for Haruhiko and Eukanaria!
