Berserk is a fearsome assault on the senses, a manga masterpiece that leaves no sensibility unturned and no blade unbloodied. A complex blend of horror, humor, and action, Berserk is definitely not for the fait on heart, the weak of stomach, or anyone who still needs to sleep with the lights on. But you knew that already, right? People who read reviews of Berserk must get tired of hearing: “Yeah, and this volume was crazy – crazy, crazy things happened because it was SO crazy.” But honestly, Berserk is pretty “crazy” and crazy things happen every volume like a freakish nightmare on speed. The grotesque and often frightening imagery comes from a mind heavy with creativity, but a dark creativity with a unique edge to it. And thus volume twenty-eight fits right in with its other twenty-seven brother’s and sisters, because this book is yet another ride straight through hell and out the other side – no kidding.

The art is awesome - the intensity of it’s unique nightmarish quality is beyond that of any other manga I can think of. You don’t know what “attention to detail” means until you read Berserk – each page is just brimming with details beyond what most of us could imagine. There are some whole chapters where each page is a horrifying and/or beautiful work of art – the visuals skimp on nothing, EVER. The closest thing visually that Berserk could be compared to might be “Claymore,” another very good manga - but really Berserk is on a plain of its own – it’s just that unique in its proficiency. All in all, it is very well rounded, featuring amazing art and intricate story. Being captivated by this series is not a difficult task – Berserk is a calling for many mature manga readers.

IN SUMMARY:
Berserk is an incredible story – both in length and in plot details. It is a true horror epic that is hard for any other series to come close to in relation to overall quality and depth.
