A stand-alone story about loss, loneliness and love, Seven is an emotional journey of two young men who are brought together by tragedy, fate and a name. Mitsuha is an orphan in search of his brother, a boy named Nana. His drifting brings him to an old friend and a place to stay with a roommate who bears the same name. This is not his kid brother though. This Nana has a painful past of his own and uses his standoffish ways to prevent others from getting too close to him. Mitsuha’s accepting and gentle nature confuses the hardened and abuse street hustler, breaking through Nana’s defenses. Nana pushes his friendship away to protect the bitter wounds that still lay open in his heart. He fears he’s only a replacement for Mitsuha’s brother. Will Mitsuha prove to be another shattering disappointment? Can either of these two lonely souls find comfort in each other? An emotionally moving and deeply romantic manga, the story doesn’t end with these two. A second story shows the lives of two brothers. These two people aren’t related by blood as one discovers he’s adopted. Misunderstandings and an attempt to distance himself from the family may all prove in vain as the other young man confronts him. The ending will reveal some startling ties to the characters of the first chapters. The overall manga has a gentle movement to the story telling, displaying a tenderness shown through the often silent suffering of the characters. It has a poignant emotional depth that makes the romance exceptionally touching. The art style uses simple lines to tell a layered story with mild erotic love scenes and sensitively done dramatic themes. This stand-alone volume ends with an epilogue featuring Mitsuha and Nana and includes an after word from the gifted author. IN SUMMARY: Seven is an exceptionally moving emotional drama of two young men with painful pasts finding solace and love with each other.
