SERIES SYNOPSIS:
Megumi Amatsuka, a rough and tumble nine-year-old boy, always yearned to become the “manliest man on earth”. Receiving a book of magic from a sorcerer he saved from a group of thugs, Megumi summons a genie in order to make a wish. The genie, however, is a mischievous devil, and Megumi winds up as the “womanliest woman on earth”! Six years later Megumi is the most desirable girl in school, though deep within her hot-mama façade is the same trash-talkin’, punk-stompin’ boy.

REVIEW:
With only a few volumes left (this is 16 out of a 20 volume series), the story focuses on some hiccups in the relationships within the story, particularly between Megumi and Hitimoji. Megumi listens to Hitimoji’s search for courage that stems from a painful time in his past. The story touches Megumi and she attempts to comfort her friend in her usual brash way. She shows some valuable insight with her friend. However, is their growing bond platonic or something more? But he isn’t the only friend Megumi should be keeping an eye on when another of her friends locates a second book of summoning to try to help Megumi return to her boy form again. However, Megumi remembers well the betrayal of the genie six years ago, what trouble will happen this time? Especially when it is Ichiro who has to make the fateful decision. And with Yanagisawa and Takao planning a trap to gain revenge on Megumi, just what will happen?

A very unusual drama, this series is intriguing for its uniqueness and original story and distinct art style. It is interesting to see with the passage of time how all “her” friends know and accept her as she is with the full knowledge the she is a guy despite her female body. However, after six years as a girl and now becoming a woman, could Megumi’s manly interior be wearing away?

This volume ends on the climatic suspense of Ichiro’s decision – will he help his friend Megumi, risking who knows what to converse with the genie in this newfound magic book? And what of the trap set by Yanagisawa and Takao?

IN SUMMARY:
Cheeky Angel is a distinct story with an equally uniquely stylized art style. This latest volume sees Megumi firming her friendships just as the discovery of a magic book and a dastardly plot by her enemies come to the fore.
