The penultimate volume sees truths revealed and tragedy strike in the latest episodes of Elemental Gelade. Get your nerves steeled and keep the Kleenex box handy as the anime takes a dramatic and for some, and ultimately tragic, turn of events. Viro, an agent of Chaos Choir, has bonded with Cou. What she didn’t expect was for real feelings of love to grow in heart for the sky pirate. Her closeness with Cou awakens unknown feelings in Ren. With all three people confused and at emotional extremes, it’s the worst time for the enemy to strike, which is exactly what happens. Chaos Choir wants Ren and they won’t let anyone, including one of their own, stand in their way.

This fantasy adventure gets intense in this penultimate set of episodes. The majority of the volume is an arc covering the evolution of the triangle between Viro, Cou and Ren, and its ultimate –and fatal – resolution. Because of Viro, progress does occur in Cou’s relationship with Ren, but it meets tragedy and conflict to leave viewers at a cliffhanger ending in wait of the final volume. The virulent attacks by Chaos Choir lead to a moment of revelation and discovery for Ren, Cou and their friends as they discover a most unsettling link between the assassins and Edel Garden and just why Ren is wanted to badly by them.

Adventure, suspense and a bit of romantic angst all come together for an involving set of episodes. As Cou and Ren’s friends make more disturbing conclusions about Arc Aile and learn the truth behind Chaos Choir, the series kicks into high gear for the final volume and climatic conclusion. We also get to see a lot more of the agents of Chaos Choir for some exciting viewing. With all that is revealed there is still a lot more questions waiting to be answered in the much anticipated conclusion.
