A romantic and erotic dark fantasy about a devil yearning for redemption and an angel’s fall from grace, Innocent Bird is a captivating new yaoi series to delight fans of supernatural intrigue and sexy preternatural beings. Shirasagi is a demon looking for some faith in his quest to redeem himself. The handsome devils however will stop at nothing to seduce him back to Hell. Karasu is sent by the Bureaucracy of Heaven under its mandate to retrieve Shirasagi. His mission becomes personal when feelings between these two unlikely supernatural men develop. Now both are in trouble as both Heaven and Hell set their agents against them. This is an enthralling new series rich with a romance that defies both Heaven and Hell in a demon and an angel’s search for the grace only true love can give. A richly told dark fantasy, it holds a slight Gothic flavor in its rendition of modern day Japan and the involvement of preternatural beings in the lives of ordinary humans. The battles to seduce Shirasagi are dangerously sexy and the characters run to the supernaturally exotic. Not only does it contain alluring character designs and art work attractive to dark fantasy, the story is an intriguing and involving one. It has action, danger and mystery. It is the kind of storytelling that fans of more plot driven character stories such as FAKE, Gravitation, and Yellow will want to check out. The main characters of Shirasagi and Karasu are attractive as well as interestingly ironic. The demon is the one with a surer sense of faith and purity than that of the angel sent to fetch him. Meanwhile Karasu (a word which in Japanese is roughly defined as “black bird” and can refer to ravens or crows) is an angel with a rugged look, sunglasses and likes to smoke. He is jaded and his encounter with Shirasagi shows him how empty and bleak his existence has become. When Shirasagi is captured by a devil intent on making him his, Karasu will stop at nothing to save the handsome demon. His interference will lead to trouble for both of them and a growing mystery as to who Shirasagi truly is. The manga contains a bonus story “My Sweet Darling” which is a bittersweet tale of two boys trying to find a place to call home and end the bitter loneliness that have plagued their lives. IN SUMMARY: Innocent Bird is a richly told and captivating dark fantasy filled with erotic supernatural seduction, exotic preternatural men, and the forbidden love between a demon and an angel.
