The creator of Antique Bakery, and Flower of Life, brings an all new dramatic romance about how one man’s rediscovery of his love for music awakens his heart to love of another person. Kugayama is a music teacher who has lost his inner spark despite his special talent as a teacher. Resigned, even content in the safety of giving himself over to apathy; he never expected his self-contained world to be shaken by his latest student. The gifted and handsome Tanaka comes to Kugayama for special lessons to prepare him for the entrance exam into a prestigious music school. What Kugayama will discover is that Tanaka will teach the master a thing or two about opening one’s heart. Will Kugayama hear the music of his heart before it’s too late? This stand alone romantic drama has many of the staples of Fumi Yoshinaga’s style. The writer always shows a sure talent for giving a deeper poignancy and emotional realism to the characters. This story is no exception. However Solfege is a more straightforward and less layered story than other titles Yoshinaga has released. It nevertheless manages to hit some dramatic, even upsetting notes during the evolution of these two men, an evolution that spans over ten years in the book. It is a moving romantic tale and there are striking depths to each of the main characters that are explored. All of it done with Fumi Yoshinaga’s distinct art style. IN SUMMARY: Solfege is a stand alone romance about two men, one rediscovering his love of music while both discover their love for each other. Strongly dramatic, it is a mature telling of love, loss and rediscovery over the course of ten years in the lives of these two young and musically gifted men.
