One of the most hilarious yaoi romantic comedies in manga is right here in this guffaw rich stand alone story that will make your head spin with laughter! The most unlikely and most outrageous pairing in manga happens when the straight forward, straight and narrow (though not necessarily that kind of ‘straight’) top student Shindou chooses to go to one of the roughest schools in one of the worst neighborhoods. Gangs, thugs and worse roam the streets, alleyways and the school halls and Shindou is utterly unfazed by any of it. Instead when he meets three likely school bullies upon his first approach, he ends up choosing them as his new pals, whether they like it or not! It seems this elite student is quite the eccentric and possibly more dangerous than any criminal there! He knows how to get what he wants in an on the level manner, but very weird way and it will have readers howling in their seats. Yousuke is the brash young man who has a shy side that is hidden under an extremist rough personality. He yells almost always, cusses constantly, and flails at everything and anything as if to ward others or scare them away. None of it flaps the unflappable Shindou who immediately takes a liking to the diamond in the rough. True love maybe never did run smooth, but for these two it will be a rollercoaster of laughs for the reader to enjoy. I laughed myself so hard during this manga that I had tears in my eyes. It’s that funny. Yousuke’s frustrated because he can’t figure out why Shindou gets to him so much. He’s a bit dense when it comes to matters of the heart. His inability to express his feelings properly are another obstacle and source of entertainment. He overreacts to everything, understands next to nothing (especially when it comes to Shindou) and seems incapable of ever seeing it coming when Cupid hits him with a big love whammy for the eccentric new kid on the block. Things only get more confusing for him when a new and also exemplary student shows up and admires Shindou, following him everywhere. To say Yousuke doesn’t deal well with jealousy is an understatement. Things take another hilarious turn when he gets invited to visit Shindou at the guy’s house to meet the parents and he learns just where Shindou gets some of his more interesting personality quirks from. This tale is a laugh page. The manga is done by the creator of The First Stage of Love. You Make My Head Spin has an affable art style that is immediately engaging and keeps pace with the outrageous comedy with ease. It also has a bonus story about a high school student who falls for his sensitive sensei. Unlike many teacher-student taboo love relationships depicted in yaoi, this story takes a more mature route and has the teen and teacher choosing to wait until the student has matured and graduated before revisiting the issue and the possibility of a relationship. It is more poignant and serves as an interesting counterpoint to all the mirth of the main story.
