It’s the final volume of Sugar Rune and the stakes couldn’t be higher! Vanilla and Chocolat have had to put aside the competition to be queen of the Magical World in order to save their loves Woo and Pierre from the clutches of the king of the Underworld, Glace, who might just be Chocolat’s father! They venture into the poisonous lands of the Underworld, threatened by ambushes and all kinds of monsters. They unknowingly fall into the trap set by Glace and find themselves unsuspectingly having released the imprisoned king! Now he’s off to destroy the Magical World and everyone they love! To save everyone they know and love from death at the hands of the Ogre army, the girls fight valiantly against the Noir infesting the entire Magical World. Friends fall, hearts gets broken, and a surprise appearance by Chocolat’s mom might be their only hope! Everyone turns against Chocolat except for her truest friends. She bears the blame for her father being released. In order to save all she knows and loves, she goes forth to use her magical Filtre power against her own daddy dearest! It’s a suicide mission but she’ll do anything to save everyone! Now that’s a heroine! The final fight is something else. With Pierre by her side, Chocolat gives it her all and with a little help from her friends, the kingdom might be saved. But what about her and Pierre? Years pass and a new queen is chosen. The ending is one for the fairy tale books in this splendid fantasy adventure! What a great finale! I’ll try not to give too much away but it held surprises and a lot of heart, even more so than its usual quota! For fans of fantasy with that kind of courageous heart felt momentum, this is the manga for you. It’s a super magical series. And it’s all about the power of friendship and the heart. It’s a feel good series all around with a fabulous ending you’ll want to read again and again!
