It’s a volume full of revelations in the latest Record of a Fallen Vampire. Bridget stages a meeting with Gozen to try to get the Dhampires out from under the thumb of the secret human organization. In doing so, she reveals her past with Akabara and the real reason he’s searching for his queen, hidden and sealed away by the humans. The startling revelation rocks everyone who thought they understood what was going on. It sets the Black Swan’s plans into turmoil and it is in this volume that the real strategy behind the humans is at last uncovered and it will change everything that readers thought they understood about not only Akabara, but the series as well.

Realizing who Bridget is in all of this adds immense breadth to her character and her role in this story. However it also raises many questions about Akabara. Is he the tragic figure in the tale after all? Or is he but one of many? The events that led to the downfall of the vampire kingdom are told but it is hard to say if this is truly the whole story. It certainly makes things more complex for everyone and some of them are having hard time adjusting to the new truths they’ve learned. Can Renka learn from the past mistakes of others or is he fated to be only a puppet for revenge? The Black Swan searches her memories of Akabara to learn the truth but it only raises more questions about who and what the Black Swan is and what her real bond to Akabara may be.

The coming threat of a third party in all of this is what helps shake up the world order, in every sense of the word. It also seems an odd addition to a supernatural tale. It will be curious to see how it all plays out in the coming volumes. The story is growing increasingly intricate with many various and sympathetic characters trapped within the labyrinth of a tragedy a thousand years in the making.

IN SUMMARY:
Many truths are told to shake up the series in the latest volume! It is an increasingly complex supernatural tale which makes it that much more compelling a series.
