It’s the supreme sourcebook for Genshiken fans! It goes into all things Genshiken which means the book goes into all things otaku! Fans get an in depth look at the international phenomenon of the hit anime and manga Genshiken in the Official Book! Being a series based on otaku, the book knows how to give fans what they want, including a full color fold poster exclusive to the book! The ultimate Genshiken guide is broken up into a bunch of varied and hilarious chapters. It starts with introductions for the newbie into the world of Genshiken and otaku such as Akihabara, comic-fest, school fest, and more. You get an introduction to the members of Genshiken with corresponding manga excerpts to help illustrate the character points – literally! Chapter 3 is a hilarious look at the relationships romantic and otherwise in Genshiken. Who knew girls could be so complicated? Their relationships are the most funny. They do not get along! Chapter 4 has Madarame’s Ten Commandments for true Otaku. A must read for knowledge and laughs. Five gives fans a look at Genshiken’s favorite manga and anime within the hit manga and anime of Genshiken – Kujibiki Unbalance. The chapter has Kujibiki character guide and anime script. If you though it couldn’t get better, chapter 6 has a fond nostalgic look at what was happening in the world of manga and anime in 1987 and holds a special interview with Genshiken creator Ken Akamatsu (who also did Negima and Love Hina) where he tells readers his own rules for enjoying comiket and talks about Genshiken. That’s followed up by a “How Otaku are You Quiz” (I’m not telling you my score!). Then readers get treated to an unofficial side story and later a guide to a beautiful otaku life that gives you the rules to happy otaku living. The final chapter is a special reveal by mangaka Ken Akamatsu as he unveils extra info about the Genshiken characters! The book is followed up by a note about the author, translation notes, and a reproduction of the Kujibiki Unbalance trading cards that were included in the original Japanese Genshiken Official Book. Sadly we only get black and white paper copies on the page but they sure are pretty to look at. Plus throughout the book there are lists and explanations of otaku terminology to help expand your vocabulary.
IN SUMMARY: The book has a fun overview of everything Genshiken along with all sorts of extras exclusive to this book! It’s Genshiken, Genshiken and more Genshiken for fans to revel in! |
