Passionate Theory is an involving love triangle for yaoi readers to lose themselves in. It’s an unusual triangle. Math-geeks Midori and Kanoh have been friends forever and now it looks like they might be parting ways. Midori dreams of studying overseas. Kanoh however, dreams only of Midori. However he believes Midori is hung up on Hanabusa. It gets even more complicated because Hanabusa is a teacher and Midori’s cousin! Is it a case of forbidden love? Are Kanoh’s feelings to remain forever unrequited? If only that were the only problem facing this trio. Hanabusa is crafty and doesn’t mind toying a little with the minds of his fired up cousin and reserved student Kanoh. Kanoh tries to withdraw from the situation because he likes Hanabusa as well! Things get sticky fast and misunderstandings run wild with this lot. Midori is hurt by Kanoh’s withdrawal and he seems to think and gets jealous of all the time Kanoh seems to be spending with Hanabusa. So just who likes who here? It becomes a maze of confusion and bursting emotions for these young adults in this engaging romantic dilemma. This was a well thought out and involving romance. The complexities to the relationships and misunderstandings make it that way. Feelings of admiration get confused for love, inattention is mistaken for anger, and love sometimes goes unnoticed. But will it get noticed in time? That’s what readers will find out by the end of this enjoyable stand alone manga. The art is exceptional. It is very well done with some lovely and atmospheric imagery that is emotionally evocative of the moods the story imparts. And they do so competently and with beautiful illustrations.
