In this volume the story takes the tension down a few notches to let the reader breathe after all the suspense of the previous volumes. First, a photographer takes an interest in Hazuki and it isn’t Kouhei. A man he admires has seen a photo Kouhei took of the vampire he’s falling in love with, and photographer Beat Graham may want more than to simply take her picture.

With the story’s pacing slowing a little to give readers a rest, the story flow isn’t as fluid as the previous ones. That doesn’t mean it isn’t as interesting and enjoyable, but it is different in the way the chapters are laid out than what Tsukuyomi Moon Phase fans are used to. The full ramification of Graham’s involvement isn’t followed through yet here. Instead, the final chapters in this installment focus on revealing Elfriede’s past. This back story is the true centerpiece of volume 6 as we get a dramatic, and ultimately tragic, look at Elfriede’s sorrowful history.

The first and last pages of the manga help ensnare continued interest with the appearance of Mario, Luna’s servant. This vampire may be even more powerful than Kinkle. It seems the days of peace and quiet for Kouhei and Hazuki are about to come to an abrupt and violent end.

This manga features a couple of unusual extras including black and white photographs provided by the author and a humorous special edition bonus comic story with Elfriede’s plans to have her own manga series.

IN SUMMARY:
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is an involving dark fantasy series. Volume 6 takes step back to introduce two new future threats to Kouhei and Hazuki’s happiness and to give readers a look into Elfriede’s tragic past.
