Kurohime continues her quest to find a way to resurrect her love Zero, but at an ever increasing cost that she hides behind a wizened smile. But the facts are these: every time she uses her full abilities to achieve her goals of collecting the powers of the Four Spirit Kings to go against the gods and resurrect her love, she loses her memories of him.

The cost is one also aggravated by her own changed persona. A full person at last thanks to Zero’s sacrifice, Kurohime now fights to save lives, all life, be it human, spirit or god depending on the circumstances. She will not kill good people who are merely wayward. And it costs her in memories and in spirit. But Zero would do no less and her love for him dictates to her that she do the same. But at what cost should she lose every last memory of Zero?

The latest manga volume finds her facing off with a ticked off Spirit King Genbu who uses the enraged Saiyuki as his vessel to fight Kurohime. Both beautiful vixens have a knock down drag out fight. Saiyuki wants nothing more than to toy and destroy the witch-gunslinger. Kurohime has other plans. The battle reaches such a magnitude that it threatens all of Yamato Island. To protect all those on it, Kurohime is forced to again lose another precious memory of Zero but in turn gains the allied powers of Genbu. And perhaps the heart of the young lord Kazuma. He is much like Zero. Should she lose all her memories of her beloved, will she turn to this man instead?

In the meantime another threat has risen from the underworld to annihilate Kurohime. But Yashahime does not want Kurohime’s death to be too quick. For killing her beloved Darkray, Yashahime plans a painful destruction for the witch-gunslinger. To make her life a living Hell, the soul of Zero has been taken from its hidden depths in the netherworld and Yashahime, who possesses the power of land and death, will use his soul to make Kurohime’s existence a living Hell on Earth!

That would be enough to undo the stalwart heart of the wandering witch-gunslinger if only she knew that was coming. But Kurohime has a more immediate danger urgently requiring her undivided attention. Luckily she doesn't yet know the truth about Zero. Right now she is faced with Ukehime. In their search of the next Spirit King Byakko, they go through a village that proves to be a trap, a trap to fatten them up to be eaten by the beautiful and deadly Ukehime! Only Kazuma remains unaffected. Can a mere mortal battle a goddess?
