SYNOPSIS:
Due to an unfortunate accident at the cursed Chinese training ground Jusenkyo, when Ranma and his father get splashed with cold water, papa turns into a giant panda and male Ranma becomes a buxom young woman! Hot water reverses the effect, but only until the next time! Constantly chased by battle-happy martial artists and lovesick suitors of both sexes, what's a half-boy, half-girl martial artist to do?

REVIEW:
Anyone involved in anime has heard the name “Ranma” at some time or other. This is the perfect opportunity to find out what this wildly popular anime is all about and at a great price. The fan favorite comedy anime series has been released for the first time in an economical thinpack box set edition. Saves space and the pocket book. It had been previously released as a regular sized box set.
Ranma ½ season one is the beginning of an anime legend. From famed creator Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Mermaid Forest), this martial arts comedy has swept the world to win fans internationally with its immensely likeable characters, imaginative story telling and comedic romance. This first season sees Ranma first arrive with his father at the Tendo dojo where he first meets his fiancée Akane. The crazy curse that turns him into a girl when splashed with cold water is quickly revealed and Ranma’s first day at his new school with Akane leads to some hilarious gender-bending results as he attracts unwanted male mashers in his girl form.
Unwanted love interests aren’t Ranma and Akane’s only problems. He is a martial artist and soon his biggest contender, old school pal Ryoga, shows up to challenge him to duel after duel. Eternally plagued with a terrible sense of direction, Ryoga gets lost in more ways than one when he meets Akane and loses his heart. Now his battles with Ranma have become more personal than ever. There isn’t even room to breathe as the comedic romp ensues with crazy battles, mistaken identities and fellow student Kuno’s fascination and over-the-top obsession with girl-type Ranma. Then when Kuno’s twisted sister shows up, an Anything Goes Martial Arts Gymnastics battle ensues between her and Akane for boy-type Ranma!
You have to see this series to believe it. The crazy martial arts are wonderfully creative and funny. Anything Goes is the perfect name as anything really does happen. The personalities in this anime are each unique, endearing and unforgettable in the best way. The story is primarily a comedy and it sticks to that with fantastic imagination and charm. There is some romance woven into the story which only makes it that much more endearing and addictive. It’s magic the way the series can make you laugh and fill your heart with affection. It will stay with you always and fondly. This classic series sports great animation in the first season, the type more commonly found in OVAs at the time.
