Two fun filled fan service rich OVA episodes fulfill many a viewer’s dream in this compilation of specials of the acclaimed hit Negima. It begins with a Spring Special. Asuna and Negi have another misunderstanding that leaves Negi down in the dumps and Ayaka thrilled to have an opportunity to whisk Negi away to a private island getaway a deux! Things go afoul quickly though when the entire gaggle of girls in class 2-C comes along for the ride and a chance to be with their favorite pint-sized teacher Negi. The opening theme starts with the gang sky diving from the jet to the tropical island. The fan service starts there and keeps going. It’s a delightful chaos to be lost in. The girls try various insane schemes to cheer up their teacher that includes Negi versus not-so killer sharks. Some of the girls even go off in search of chupacabras! The special has a wonderful vivid animation style bright with colors and action. The fan service is more ample than the bosoms the anime boasts as the girls go around in bikinis throughout most of the show. The episode has eye-catches all throughout that give the bios of the various girls of the class. The opening theme is the catchy “Dream Everyone” sung by Akemi Kanda (the voice of Asuna) and Rina Sato (the voice of Negi). The ending is the bright “Good Morning!” sung by Akemi Kanda (Asuna). In the Summer Special, shy Nodoka ends up casting a spell to discover if Negi is her destined love. But the spell of the red string of fate goes awry and now she and Negi are bound together by a very physical although invisible magical red string. When everyone goes away to Ayaka’s new spa resort, the zaniness only gets crazier. Soon Asuna is dodging frisky washing machines while Negi has to deal with sharing a hot spring with the girls! The beloved anime based on Ken Akamatsu’s (Love Hina) manga finds new heights of hilarity in these specials. The Summer Special is also vividly done animation that constantly experiments with different animation styles keeping it an exceptionally dynamic viewing experience. It also has many eye-catches throughout and since it is set in a spa, expect plenty of fan service and then some. The animation sequence during the opening and ending both showcase cover art from the actual manga. The opening is the sugar and pep song “Love Sensation” sung by Rina Sato (Negi), Akemi Kanda (Asuna) and Ai Nonaka (Konoka). The ending is “Magical Happiness?!” sung by Mamiko Noto (Nodoka).
