The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, are now in the northern mountains, specifically in Fort Briggs.  The commanding officer, Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong, believes that the brothers are spies and are not to be trusted.  This intensifies when a Homunculus bursts through the fort’s basement floor.  Only Ed and Al seem to know what the homunculus is and how to stop it.  That really does not sit well with Maj.-Gen.  Armstrong.  Another thing that doesn’t sit well with her is that Kimblee, the very unstable Red Lotus Alchemist, is in the village at the bottom of Mount Briggs, upon which is Fort Briggs.

Meanwhile, Scar and Yoki, a former Lieutenant in the Army, are returning to their hideout from a fight in the tunnels below Central City.  In a hideout at Mount Briggs, May and Marcoh are trying to figure out the research notes of Scar’s brother on the fusion of Xing and Amestris alchemy.  They do get somewhere, but then are nearly found by the Army, and so have to leave very quickly.

At Fort Briggs, things come to a head.  Maj.-Gen. Armstrong checks out the hole made by the homunculus and things get very dangerous and possibly deadly.  She also shows her true personality in some unexpected ways.  Also, Ed and Al ask the Maj.-Gen. for help, and when she does help them, they find out something very sinister and unexpected about Amestris’ history.

The art is as wonderfully expressive and detailed as usual.  Some panels are so well done that when several emotions are expressed at once, the reader feels them all!

IN SUMMARY:
There’s trouble in the cold, cold north as the Elric brothers continue their search for the truth!
