A sweet natured shojo series, Full Moon the anime teases viewers with a possible romantic rival for Mitsuki in this latest volume. With only a year to live, Mitsuki has diligently pursued a career as a pop idol thanks to the transformative powers of her two death spirit (shinigami) friends. They use their magic to transform her into the older looking Full Moon so she can get her song heard and hopefully touch the heart of the boy Eichi who had given her courage all those years ago when she needed it the most. In this latest volume as Mitsuki continues to try to climb the pop charts as Full Moon, she comes across one adventure after another. First a small benefit concert for some orphans has her recalling her own childhood and the boy Eichi, whom she sees the reflection of in two of the children there. But the boy wants to stop the concert and Full Moon wants to find out why so that she can help this boy and girl be together. Her desire to reunite the children is a deeper reflection of her own wish to be reunited with Eichi. Later, when her manager is in the hospital, Full Moon is stuck with the most bumbling and inept substitute manager ever. But when Full Moon learns why he’s falling all over himself, she’s determined to help him any way she can. One of the more intriguing episodes yet however, happens when Full Moon is saved from some hooligans by a kind and handsome young man. But it isn’t just this new boy who has managed to capture her attention. The shinigami who has helped her all this time, Takuto, seems to be jealous! When things start to get hairy, who ends up winning her kiss? The final episode sees an old face re-emerge as Full Moon must square off again against Madoka. They are both auditioning for a commercial and the winner is in for a shock! This anime series throughout plays a bit like stand alone episodes, but this particular volume touches on a change in the air as Takuto appears as a possible rival for Mitsuki’s heart. This raises many interesting questions about what will happen if a shinigami falls in love with his charge and what about Mitsuki’s dream to be reunited with Eichi? There is also the mystery surrounding Takuto’s past since shinigami don’t have the memories of their earthly existence as humans. If he remembers, what will those memories bring to his awakening feelings towards Mitsuki? EXTRAS: Volume 4 extras include previews of other Viz Shojo Beat anime, manga and magazine titles. IN SUMMARY: Full Moon is a gently paced shojo series with a sweet natured heroine always trying to help others. This latest volume of stand alone episodes sees Mitsuki reunited with an old rival and the emergence of a possible – and most unexpected- new contender for her tender heart.
