Luffy and the crew are off to Rainbase, the centre of Crocodile’s operations.  As they travel along in the desert, Luffy is surprisingly very protective of the water that was given to him by Toh-Toh, the only man left in Yuba.  During the trip, Vivi tells them what she knows about Rainbase.  Of course Nami is intrigued when she hears it’s a gambling town, the casino being where Crocodile is the manager.

Meanwhile, at the rebel’s home base, the rebel leader, Koza, gets ready to attack Alabasta’s capital.  However, a couple of things happen to speed up the timeframe for the main battle.  Could a ship crashing in the middle of town be one of them?

When the Strawhats finally get to Rainbase, Luffy, of course, wants to kick Crocodile’s butt right away, but Captain Smoker finds them first, and they have to split up!  Smoker naturally goes after Luffy, while the others go in different directions to meet at the casino.  Most of the crew along with Smoker get caught in a clever trap set inside the casino by Crocodile.  The cage they end up in is so invulnerable that even Zolo can’t cut through the bars, and it has a weird effect on Luffy!  To make things worse, huge bananagators are ready to make everyone in the cage their lunch!

Vivi gets to observe this from the relative comfort of being tied to a chair.  Crocodile explains how they can’t stop him, while Vivi tries to escape and go for help.   Help does come at a perfect moment in the form of Mr. Prince.  Of course, fighting ensues.  Want to guess who won?

During all this, Mr. 1, Miss Doublefinger and Mr. 2 wander around, creating all kinds of confusion.

There are so many things happening in this latest volume that you have to read it to find out.  This is not a volume one could skip!
