A coronary report states that Lupin the Third had been executed and finally put to rest – and there are those who are willing to believe that he is dead. Others though think the criminal is still at large, in hiding somewhere.

When someone goes looking for him, finding his tomb, opening it and getting the fright of his life, the story takes the viewer to Egypt where Interpol Inspector Zenigata has three photos of precious objects Lupin the Third has thieved, and wonders why if he is indeed not dead, he would come all this way into the desert.

Rumours are a bound with stories, but only one is true. Lupin is in fact alive, and well and he is in search of the Philosopher's Stone, a mythical crystal, but will Zenigata find his man and prevent him from his thieving activities?

This is the first of five animated movies based on Lupin the Third, a greatly popular character created by Monkey Punch, aka Kazuhiko Kato, a manga writer and illustrator and The Secret of Mamo has been brought to UK viewers for the first time on DVD.

Considered a manga classic from the early eighties, its style and animation has many of the elements of traditional European animation from that era many would be interested to see.

To some anime fans it may not be the style they are used to from Manga Entertainment, but even they can be surprising at times, and the earlier anime such as this will be great to look back at when there are so many different anime styles around.

For those who enjoyed Studio Ghibli's 'The Castle of Cagliostro,' and Inspector Gadget as the characters are reminiscent of them as is the general feel of the movie. There is a fare share of adult humour, nudity, swearing and action, with sensuality in it too making it not for the younger viewing range.Colourful, detailed and not lacking in plot or fun, this will be enjoyed by all.

EXTRAS:
Trailers for Origin, Buso Renkin, Deathnote, Bleach, Naruto, Naruto The Movie, Stand Alone Complex Series, GITS SSS, and a stunning Art Gallery with twenty seven images of the main characters in pencil to colour.

IN SUMMARY:
Lupin the Third, super thief and lothario. Anime in the early days never looked so daring, sleazy, hip and trendy. This is a  Retro 80's hit anime worthy of top billing!
