Sword, sorcery and ray guns kick butt and kick off a big adventure for a little guy in the all new anime Blue Dragon! It’s based off of the popular XBOX 360 game, but don’t expect a lot of similarity. The anime creates a whole epic adventure for Shu, the hero. He’s a pint-sized ten-year-old with a lot of gumption and little mojo. But when his village gets attacked by the big bad spaceships and nasty guards of Grankingdom, he tries his best to fight back. Luckily he gets some help from the sword wielding babe Zola who is super cool and her annoying sidekick/apprentice Jiro.  Even then though, things aren’t looking good. And then the bad guys unleash their Shadow powers but the good guys have some of their own. And in the middle of the fight Shu finds out he has one of the biggest baddest Shadow’s of the all - the Blue Dragon! Now he just has to control the dragon before he destroys the city and everyone in it!

Blue Dragon is fun, it’s fast paced, and it’s great for kids and adults. Especially if you love the shonen action of shows likes Dragon Ball Z and One Piece.  There’s a whole epic battle being fought here. There were once Soldiers of Light and those of Shadow. Using that same power, the Seven Soldiers of Light fought back the Shadows. But nothing’s forever and now Nene and the Grankingdom are bringing that evil power back into full force. Now it’s up to Zola to find the reincarnated Seven Soldiers of Light to have them fight the big bad evil again and seal it away for good and Shu just might be one of them!

He’s gonna have his hands full too. Not only does he have to apprentice with Jiro. These two do not get along, but he has to master his shadow, the ultra powerful Blue Dragon. The dragon is one harsh dude who only wants to destroy. To save all that he cares about, Shu’s gonna have to master the beast within to fight the big bads on the outs. He won’t be doing it alone though. Hs girl chum Kluke is with them and so is the funny critter Marumaro with some Shadow power of his own. These five all together go up against two shady Shadow brothers and try to ambush a fort held by a seemingly invincible general who seems to know Zola!  They fight, they try to save the villagers attacked everywhere they go and hopefully become stronger in the process. Hopefully strong enough to face Nene and bring the Grankingdom down once and for all!

It’s got big time energy and lots of action. Speaking of DBZ, the character designs are done by DBZ creator Akira Toriyama. It shows. And it’s awesome fun (I did mention the ultra cool Zola right?)! The animation is done by Studio Pierrot. They did Naruto (another energetic shonen action show), YuYu Hakusho (another fighting anime), Bleach (need we say more?) and Key the Metal Idol as well as Fushigi Yugi. That’s a slick list of fantasy and action anime. Since Blue Dragon is more youth oriented don’t expect it to be too graphic in any sense, but you can expect popping colors, some CG here and there, and great fast paced action animated well.
