Haine now knows the secret about Shizumasa and Takanari. That should make it easy for her to go back to life continuing as usual. But that’s not the case. Instead she finds herself torn between two very different young men who look exactly alike!  Takanari hasn’t given up winning her away from his brother and it only causes Haine more confusion. However, chaos truly reigns when Haine uncovers a most unsettling secret about her friend Ushio. To uncover the darkness lurking within her friend, Haine may have to make the greatest sacrifice of all…

This is one of the most dramatic and unsettling volumes of the series so far.  It starts off understandably with Haine and her confusion between the two men in her life. When Takanari refuses to step aside and instead makes a stand for her heart, Haine has a surprising reaction. Yet it is followed by an even more startling confession that shakes things up in this love triangle even more.  There are no easy choices here. And things are about to become even more love challenged for the gentle and giving open-hearted Haine.

Haine’s heart and the returned feelings of the Emperor have not gone unnoticed by Haine’s friends. Yet in Ushio’s case it seems to pull the friends farther apart. Just what is going on? Rather than being happy for her friend, Ushio’s true feelings come out. Her self-destructive behavior is uncovered by Haine who is shocked and filled with heartache for her friend. To save Ushio, Haine makes a striking and series altering choice. It will disrupt everyone involved.

Love and tragedy seem to go hand in hand for the characters in Gentlemen’s Alliance. A shojo series that seems fluffy on the outside with its stellar shojo art style, truly exemplary, gets hard hitting and heart rending many times over as the series progresses. What more tragic secrets do these people hold? You may find yourself reading with baited breath and Kleenex near to hand as the latest events unfold.

IN SUMMARY:
Haine’s love triangle hits a shocking tangle in the latest crucial volume of Gentlemen’s Alliance. It’s superb romantic drama.
