Events move quickly in the second volume of Fairy Cube. They reveal the backgrounds of Kaito, Raven, Ian and Tokage. And that’s just the beginning! Kaori Yuki has created another Gothic masterpiece of horror, tragedy, heroism and hope. The Gotoh Group advances its plans to destroy the human race and create a new fairy realm in retaliation for the humans destroying the fairy world. Its leader Shira has a few secrets shared in these chapters. Raven, Shira’s constant companion, is a man of secrets, but those two, at least some of them, come to light in this volume as well. Ian must confess his possession to the grandmother of the body of the boy that he has overtaken. In doing so he learns of her past in Ireland and a very big clue to someone close to him. But he may not realize soon enough. His reunion with Rin is short lived. Soon she is captured by the Gotoh Group to use him and Rin learns of a prophecy about the two realms and how it concerns Ian. The Gotoh Group wants him to advance their Elysium Project. Tokage however wants simply to destroy, destroy, and destroy. He places a tragic curse upon Rin and reveals the reason for his all consuming hatred. It unleashes a truth that binds Ian and him together and cements Ian’s resolve. In this volume of the manga Ian undergoes a change of course. When he meets his aunt Lise and finds the state his father is in, he realizes that his single minded goal of revenge against Tokage is petty in the larger scheme. After all, what good is revenge if there is no world left to live in? Then and there he changes his aims to encompass stopping the bad fairies in order to save the world and both realms. But this is far from an easy task. Those he thought were allies prove to be perhaps some of the deadliest enemies of all. And meanwhile there’s Rin, now cursed and in the hands of Gotoh Group and Shira. Ian is rushing to her rescue, but Rin is busy uncovering truths of her own and one of them might be central to Ian and his destiny! Dark, broody, melancholic and powerful, the new Gothic fantasy saga by Kaori Yuki is riveting. As the story unfolds it is like a giant spider web where the reader sees with each chapter the depths and widths to which everything and everyone within the story are interconnected. The manga includes bonus illustrations.
