The continuation of Tsubasa kicks off with a three-part story about a race, a feather, and a whole lot of secrets.  The dimensional travelers land in Piffle where there is a Dragonfly race for a very special feather. They are all intent on winning Sakura’s feather for her, but determined rivals and unexpected sabotage turn a straightforward race into a deadly game of traps, deception, and betrayal.

The race is a touch off the norm for the anime series as it lessens the drama and goes more for the action, giving the story arc a different feel than usual. Aside from the heart tugging ordeal of Kurogane encountering a soul dear to him, the show reveals many known faces from our heroes’ past.  Discoveries are made as the travelers journey not only through dimensions, but through time as well. The question of the nature of souls is an interesting esoteric one raised in this volume and could have a curious impact down the road. Of particular note in the three-part story is the reveal of other dimensional travelers, one in particular, and the re-emergence of the true villain of the piece.

The two one-shot episodes that follow are bittersweet for all involved. First the heroes return to a world already visited previously only to encounter a pending tragedy. Sakura can perhaps advert the impending loss of life, but only by sacrificing that most dear to the travelers. Next, a trip on the high seas has Syaoran encountering a familiar face and a reunion as painful as it is craved. Time spent with the one dear to him and thought lost forever is an episode both heartwarming as well as sorrowful. It is one sure to tug on the heart strings of viewers.

Of special note to collectors, this volume 7 comes with a collectible art box as well as a single disc release and features 5 full episodes.
