A one-shot anthology containing seven tales of romance (plus a couple of bonus stories), Author’s Pet is filled with yaoi romances and an engaging amount of sweetness within the comedy. It begins with the biggest of the stories involving an earnest young man willing to do anything to make an accident up to a cool and conniving author of explicit romances. The young man feels responsible for the accident. Yuuta is not the smartest of guys. When Tsubaki dictates the love scenes from his hospital bed for Yuuta to type, the “slave” has no clue that it might be intentional on Tsubaki’s part. It certainly is heating Yuuta up quite a bit. It was a hilarious romantic comedy that offered a unique seduction using words alone. In “To Keep a Cat” hustler Mutsuki finds his beat up body in the care of an unflappable and practical if off kilter vet in training named Naruse. Naruse takes in cats and apparently his human ‘stray’ likes the care and now has to figure out a way to endear himself to a man who dislikes people and prefers the company of his pets. This was a personal favorite amongst the stories, showing some sweetly romantic and vulnerable moments coated in comedy and well done at that. Other tales include an heir to a motor industry and his father’s worker that the heir has always held a torch for, a dorm battle for the heart and body of one of the most coveted guys living there, a romance that sparks at a store between a clerk and his preferred customer, and a brief short about a class monitor who loves to seductively ‘torment’ his fellow classmate at every opportunity. The manga also holds two bonus stories that follow up with the author and his ‘assistant’ and the training vet and his ‘pet’ respectively. All the stories are fun, funny and sweet. There is a good dose of cuteness to be enjoyed throughout. And the art style is attractive with some explicit scenes that are not overly graphic yet very tender.
IN SUMMARY: Author’s Pet is a one-shot yaoi anthology as sweet as it is funny. It holds many engaging and entertaining stories to amuse and touch the hearts of readers. It’s a delightful read. |
