For all those budding manga artists out there, there can be no better book to start with than this. Peter Gray shows his step-by-step guide to starting out with the basics of male character body type, as a rough sketch, then turns it into a line drawing, and after that colour is added to make the character look three dimensional.

Though every character actually starts out life as a stick man, Peter gives the reader an insight into the human male body structure using a skeleton, then the muscles are added later to give the reader a more quicker understanding of how to draw the muscles on the character.

His idea is to draw the head simplified along with the torso, rib cage and pelvis region with the arms and legs drawn on after showing the typical framework needed for a drawing , as from there would be the bodies' details such as clothing, hair, eyes and accessories. But first it is essential to get the body to look right from the offset and Peter gives directions on how to do that too.

Easy to copy images of how to draw hands, from gripping to scratching, punching or posing in fun to draw steps. Proportions of figures are mentioned, telling how many heads high each age of character is supposed to be and is one of the most important parts of this book.

Perspective and colour figure greatly in this book too and the reader will be astonished at how much the author has managed to cram into just thirty-two pages. The images are eye-catching and the book is informative enough for anyone starting out in manga illustration.

IN SUMMARY:
This step-by-step guide to creating your own male characters is a perfect start to a budding manga artist's career.
