Two journeys, two mysteries, and ten times the danger await Akane and her Guardian in the latest volume of HARUKA the anime. A mysterious death at a temple has Akane and her Guardian investigate- only to succumb to the same curse! An eight string harp metes out a hypnotic tone and the deadly spell that ensnares Akane. The Guardians must deal with a precocious demon to acquire a cure and save the priestess. But the cost may prove dear as the only way to break the spell is to sacrifice a life! It is the gentle monk and younger brother of the emperor, Eisen, who tackles the problem, proving his bravery despite his shy demeanor. Even in limbo, Akane is not free from Akram’s wiles as he continues his attempts to seduce her- body and spirit. Eisen must hurry to save Akane in time, even if it means giving up his own life. As suspenseful as the two part story about the harp was, the next episode proves gut wrenching for Tenma. A second priestess of the Dragon God appears and she seems more powerful than Akane. But how could Akram have summoned two priestesses when there was only supposed to be one? Akane goes off to investigate, but she is still distracted by Tenma’s startling confession from earlier as well as by Inori’s uncontrollable hatred towards “demons” which he directs at the blond Shimon. In the dead of night Akane is confronted by the girl who wants Akane for herself. With the ominous words “You’re in my way,” the girl unleashed a lethal supernatural attack. A powerful curse has been placed on Akane. With only a day to live, she must hasten to break the spell. But Tenma’s shocking revelation throws everything into chaos. Akram has found a way to strike out at the Guardians and undo Akane. Who is this mysterious girl under his thrall? And what does she have to do with Tenma? It is an interesting episode, full of suspense, surprises and drama. Plus this episode, Episode 11, is the director’s cut, with scenes never aired in the Japanese broadcast!
