The delightful fantasy grows in depth as the adventure and mystery deepens in the second volume of Aventura. Lewin always wanted to be a wizard, but lacking any scrap of magical talent, he is stuck in swordsmanship. One fateful day, he befriends timid wizard student and elven noble Chris, and friendship – and adventure – blooms. In the last volume magic gone wrong has put some of the students in grave danger from regenerating skeleton warriors. Chris tried a spell but it wasn’t enough. It’s up to Lewin to save them all. But with only his granny’s sword, what can the boy hope to do? Any fan of Harry Potter will love the fantasy series. A lone boy, brave of heart, shunned due to his red hair and lowly birth, longs to prove himself. His dream of becoming a wizard finds a quirky fork in the road with most of all the students and the staff against him. The constant target of bullying, Lewin is a brave boy of pure heart who is about to surprise everyone. In his time of need, Lewin calls forth a dangerous power. It’s on that might save the day or destroy them all if he can’t control it. Much like the beleaguered hero Harry, even when Soela rescues his friends, the school reacts by expelling him. Are sides against him, except for his two and only friends? A major chapter in Lewin’s destiny is revealed in this volume. This wonderfully rich fantasy starts with a robust cast of characters that offer intrigue and a broader window into their world of might and magic, courage and friendship. The illustrations in the manga are breathtakingly gorgeous. It is one of the more beautiful fantasy styles in manga that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. Manga extras include translation notes, comic panels and character profiles.
